Social Media Updates

Edition 1

Hello there,

Welcome to this new and revamped version of the Social Shells weekly newsletter! I spend hours (!) each week reading trends, algorithm updates, and other newsletters, so you don’t have to!

So, let’s dive in with some social media updates you might have missed:

Social Media Marketing Updates

  • Instagram has shared a Reels guide - but it's pretty basic

  • Instagram will soon enable you to do a collaboration post even after it’s posted

  • Instagram now lets you add up to 20 audios on a single Reels

  • Instagram is testing superlikes for stories! This could become a helpful signal for the Algorithm

  • Facebook is testing an AI summary for the comment section

  • You can now add a custom discount offer on your Meta Ads

  • Meta has a new way of letting you track conversions

  • The paralympics’s TikTok account is going viral for its controversial videos

  • Here is how the YoutubeAlgorithm works

  • CapCutfree version soon won't let you use storage for free anymore

  • Talking to Facebook on the phone!

Over the past few weeks, I had two issues with my Ad account, and both times, an actual human from Meta called me!! It was promised over a year ago that you would get extra support when paying for Meta verified, and to me, having a person to talk to was worth every penny! I now also have the option to chat with someone directly. I had this option for a long time via the help section, but now it's integrated into my Ad Manager, and the replies are fast and only from a human!

Marketing Stories

This 18-year-old girl cracked the YouTube code

She analysed thousands of videos (because data never lies) and started testing and creating her own video, which now has over 5 million followers. Just to prove that she could do it again, she also created a YouTube channel for her mom, which now has hit a million followers.

In an interview, she shares some insights about her process.

In this podcast episode, the phenomenon from the Hawk Tua Girl is discussed. Why did this video go viral?

Here is a fun fact: the creator of the video did not!

Marketing Things No One Tells You

You kind of know that a lot of the things you see on social media are not only exaggerated but downright fake. This can be especially devastating when you are a marketer who doesn’t want to inflate numbers or sell random stuff but genially create outstanding content for your clients or yourself.

If you haven’t yet, I highly suggest watching the Movie “Fake Famous

Some people buy existing IG accounts or get loads of engagement via shout-outs.

I am sharing this because every time you compare yourself or your work to others you first should question it.
